Sensing sensitivity

Forests, lakes, ponds, and rivers, clouds and winds, stars and flowers, stupendous glaciers and crystal snowflakes - every form of animate or inanimate existence leaves its impress upon the soul of man. - Orison Sweet Marden.I have been a long time resident of chetpet .This is a place of high residential and commercial activity, and probably one of the best places interconnected inside the city. It has an accessible bus stop, it is also served by Chetput station in the Beach-Tambaram line of Chennai Suburban Railway and a commercial shopping complex and more, but the point of the above description of chetpet is not its function but the beauty of its often underestimated pond. This setting is the only sanity I find in this mechanical existence, if u want me to relate this beautiful existence to architecture, let that be. Would falling waters be falling waters without its environment would it be famous because it was built by F.L.wright, no it would been a great building but not an icon. Every time I walk across the bridge running near it, my mechanized brain realizes that still there’s a hint of originality in this fast paced, trend setting city of mine. The biggest advantages of this pond is not the pond, but is credited to us .Yes us because this pond has been untouched by US.
“Architecture, of all the arts, is the one which acts the most slowly, but the most surely, on the soul” quotes Coco Chanel .isn’t it true that the beauty of architecture should reflect on our soul rather than serving for its own purpose. In order for that to happen nature should play its major role in thy process. This pond is serving the process of ‘acting on my soul’ hence playing its role in architecture. Imagining my Chetpet without its beauty (pond) brings a picture of plain concrete. The disadvantage of this pond is not the exact term, but the disadvantage to the pond by us is more evident. This pond does serve the purpose of recharging the groundwater and presents solace to the existing environment which other than the pond,it is not known for its greenery. I pray that this piece of treasure does not fall on eye of the preying real estate developers, projects and the hand of money. As young architects and humans I post this blog to state the fact to be fair to nature.....
