A 3-storey high mockery!

Airports are supposed to be the classiest places of any city. They, in a way, suggest a visitor to form his/her first impression about the entire city. It is just spontaneous. Hundreds and thousands of people inside and outside get to look at it, every single day. In such a case, the indispensable grooming of the place goes without saying. Grooming which makes people turn their heads and appreciate the beauty standing in front of them – the buildings, the landscaping, the runway….everything.
The TWA Terminal at the John F Kennedy International Airport in New York stands proudly as an example of a world class building. It is bliss to even look at it. Being through it is an experience which is class apart. This self sufficient place boldly represents its city as an iconic piece of contemporary beauty.
Contrary to this, stands a 3-storey high piece of contempt. Had it not been for the planes, Chennai International Airport would have surely been mistaken for a bus terminal. It is a rather disconcerting view. And to add on to that, the Tirusulam fly-over, which lies bang in-front of the airport, ensures every passer-by’s glance at the totally scruffy building. How the management is to numb and dumb to this fact is even more disturbing. Chennai seems to be heading towards its complete development. Endeavors to come at par with developed nations are frankly of no use if one is not sensitive to such striking and sad facts as the airport which sits across as an absolute disappointment to the city’s face. What can be done about this s not an unanswerable question. If the Delhi Airport has realized and is working towards a makeover, so can the Chennai Airport. It is high time!!
