Billionaire's Playground: Dubai

We're back at construction central, billionaire playground: Dubai. Scan that Tall Buildings list above, and you still won't see anything like this. These are the Dubai Towers... in Dubai.

Designed by Thompson Ventulett Stainback and Associates, these four towers will be completed in mid 2010.

Is it just me, or do you also want to sit in that little water inlet and stare up at the top most floor? Even though this is to be completed within 24 months, there is very little info about this building. Usually Tall Building posts are flooded with info, but this one's different.. kept aside from the rest of the world .
  • The towers will range from 57 to 94 floors in height, the tallest topping off at 1,310 feet (400 meters)
  • The tenants will be a healthy mixture: apartments, hotels, restaurants, shopping
What's hard to understand is how tall these buildings are. They are being built near the airport, so their height is restricted, but they are still giant. That tall one is almost as tall as the Empire State Building. And i wonder how do they come up with such outrageous structural solutions . and not to forget the risk of earthquakes..Set against a backdrop of beautifully landscaped lush islands in the heart of Dubai, the architecturally brilliant 'Dubai Towers - Dubai' will be surrounded by its historic Creek. the users of the building will have a totally new feeling which i think will take sometime to get used to.
As with all things Dubai, this financial district will be built on its own man-made island, The Lagoon. The Dubai Towers will certainly put this on the map.The highly unconventional luminous design of 'Dubai Towers - Dubai' will form a truly inspiring and dynamic sculpture that symbolizes an orchestrated movement of candlelight.
